Facebook Lite 529.0.0.0.77 for Android

Facebook Lite 529.0.0.0.77 for Android is the light version of the Facebook app from Facebook Inc., made for slow networks and phones with little storage. It is a free download from Google Play and takes only a few megabytes, yet keeps the core of Facebook within reach.

Overview

The regular Facebook app has grown large over the years, with video, shopping, stories and many other sections. Facebook Lite goes the other way. It keeps the basics, the news feed, posts, photos, comments, groups, notifications and messages, and packs them into an app of about 3.30 MB according to catalogue data. Images load in lighter quality, and the app is designed to keep working on weak or unstable connections, where the full app would spin or fail. That makes it popular in places where mobile data is expensive, on entry-level phones with little memory, and with people who want Facebook without the extras. It also saves battery and storage on newer phones, which is why some users switch to Lite even when they could run the full app. The trade-off is a simpler look and fewer features, especially around video.

How to install

1. Open Google Play and search for Facebook Lite.
2. Check that the app is published by Facebook before tapping Install.
3. Log in with your existing Facebook account or create a new one.
4. If you also have the regular Facebook app, you can uninstall it to save space; your account stays the same.

Requirements

No official requirements list appears in our data. Facebook Lite is built to run on older and low-end Android phones, so almost any device with Google Play will handle it.

Privacy and safety

• Install only from Google Play; beware of modified versions promising extra features.
• Turn on two-factor authentication in the security settings.
• Review who can see your posts and your friend list.
• Be careful with links in messages, even from friends whose accounts may be compromised.

Tips for saving data

Set photos to load in lower quality, turn off video autoplay if the option is available, and let the app update only over Wi-Fi. Clearing the cache from time to time keeps its footprint small.

Who it suits

Facebook Lite is a natural fit for prepaid users who watch every megabyte, for older phones that struggle with the full app, and for travellers on roaming data. It also works as a second, calmer way to check notifications without the distractions of the main app.

Price

Free to download and use; the app is supported by advertising.
